Lesson Title:  Resources, Resources, Resources!

 

Learning Objectives:

  1. Students will understand the difference between natural, human, and capital resources
  2. Students will be able to gain a better understanding of what resources a business needs
  3. Students will be able to create their own fictitious business, with resources in mind
  4. Students will be able to work on research skills
  5. Students will be able to work on presentation skills

Time Required:  3 – 7 days

Materials Needed:  Presentation medium (power point, poster board, etc)

Resources Needed:  Library and/or internet resources, document camera with projector, Smartboard, and/or other  visual aid props

Instructions: 

  1. Review the definitions of natural, human, and capital resources
  • Natural resources – Resources that exists naturally in nature (renewable and nonrenewable)
  • Human resources – All the people involved in an organization
  • Capital resources – Money, property, infrastructure, equipment, etc.

 

  1. To check for understanding, discuss examples for all types of resources

 

  1. Research the resources used by a local business (site all work)
  2. Present your findings
  3. Identify the positive and negative aspects in regards to the resources used by the local business
  4. Create a fictitious business and identify possible resources you would utilize
  5. Present #4, #5, and #6 to the class in an effective and creative way using technology or visual aid props
  6. Debrief as a whole class at the end

 

Assessment:  Short Presentation (5-10 min)

Presentation Grading Rubric

                100-90%  --  All of #4, #5, and #6 were completed; presentation was easy to understand; presentation was creative; work sited page provided; information was accurate

                89-80%   --   All of #4, #5, and #6 were completed; presentation was easy to understand; work sited page provided; information was accurate  

                79-70%   --  All of #4, #5, and #6 were completed; work sited page provided; information was accurate 

                69-60%   --  All of #4, #5, and #6 were completed but major flaws existed in at least one of the rubric criteria
